homemade dog treats for love day

Even though we have a newborn baby at home, we still try to give our canine child the love and affection she rightfully deserves. You can consider her spoiled but doesn't every pet need love? This recipe actually sprouted from a bout of tummy upset last week, which was partyly due to a case of pen cap munchies on her part. This all worked out for her benefit as you can see.

They may look time consuming or difficult but I would give this whole process a timeline of around 90 minutes (keep in mind that 40 of those minutes, these are baking).

First things first, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix together your eggs and pumpkin as smooth as you can get them. Add your dry milk powder and the sea salt, and then gradually add in your brown rice flour. Your dough will feel very dry but after you get it rolling around in your hands and kneading it, the dough will loosen up a bit.

If you're having trouble finding brown rice flour in your local grocery store, you can find it here.

Roll out your dough on your countertop with a small amount of your brown rice flour. If you are a cookie connoisseur this process will be a piece of cake. Depending on how your canine enjoys his/her treats, you can roll these out to your desired thickness. I wanted to get more for out of my dough and went on the thinner side.

I followed Marilyn's advice and gave all of my biscuits a quick jab with my fork to give them more dimension, or to make them cute, you pick. There is no need to grease your pans with this recipe. Bake your biscuits for 20 minutes, remove them from the oven, flip all of them over, and bake them for another 20 minutes. I doubled this recipe and was still able to use 3 pans in the process.

I made sure to fully cool my bisuits before the taste test with our Josie. As you can see...she was not happy to wait but by the sight of her devouring her first treat, the wait was worth it.

Thanks Marilyn from Simmer til Done, for this great recipe. Being that I doubled this recipe, Josie will have treats until May. And yes, these were made to help her upset tummy but since she loves them so very much, she gets them daily!
